What is a colon and rectal surgeon?

Colon and rectal surgeons are experts in the surgical and non-surgical treatment of colon and rectal problems. They have completed advanced training in the treatment of colon and rectal problems in addition to full training in general surgery. Colo-rectal surgeons treat benign and malignant conditions, perform routine screening examinations and surgically treat problems when necessary.

In a continuing effort to provide patients and the general public with up-to-date and useful information about diseases of the colon, rectum and anus, we have compiled the following information that includes (but is not limited to) major conditions and procedures that are generally handled by a colo-rectal surgeon.
