Varicose Veins

Varicose Veins

Varicose veins are known for their distinctive blue color and bulging appearance on the skin. As they enlarge, they may become twisted, tortuous, gnarled, or even cord-like. While any vein can become a varicose vein, they most commonly occur in your legs and feet and can occur anywhere from your groin to your ankle.

Many people with varicose veins do not experience discomfort. But more commonly, as more and more blood flows backward in the abnormal vein, the vein can become leaky causing symptoms of leg swelling and leg aches. Other symptoms can include itching and heaviness in the leg. Varicose veins make it difficult to stand, walk, work and participate in your favorite activities. Left untreated they can become a serious medical condition and may cause blood clots, skin ulcerations, bleeding and skin pigment changes.
