Patrick J. McCarthy, MD Endocrinologist
Dr. Patrick McCarthy grew up in Reno, Nevada where he went to college and medical school. He obtained his medical degree at the University of Nevada School of Medicine in 1980.
After medical school Dr. McCarthy moved to Portland, Oregon for his Internship and Residency program for Internal Medicine from 1980 through 1983 at Providence Medical Center. He went on to a fellowship program in endocrinology and metabolism at Oregon Health Sciences University and Good Samaritan Hospital in Portland from 1983 through 1985. For the next 20 years, Dr. McCarthy practiced endocrinology in Medford, where he had one of the largest endocrine practices in Oregon.
In 2005, Dr. McCarthy moved to Bend to bring endocrinology services to Central Oregon. Dr. McCarthy specializes in the care of metabolic diseases including the following:

- Metabolic syndrome
- Cholesterol and lipid disorders
- Obesity
- Hyper and hypothyroidism
- Thyroid nodules & thyroid cancer
- Osteoporosis
- Calcium metabolism
- Polycystic ovary syndrome
- Adrenal, pituitary and gonadal disorders
Dr. McCarthy is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Diabetes, Endocrinology and Metabolism. In addition he has been a member of the American Diabetes Association, American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists, International Association for Clinical Densitometry, American Medical Association and the Oregon Medical Society.
Dr. McCarthy lives in Bend with his wife and two youngest children. He enjoys skiing, fishing, bicycling and hiking in Central Oregon with his family. He sees patients in both Bend and Redmond. |
