Marinus “Dick” Koning, MD, FACS Surgeon, Founder
Dr. Koning received his medical degree in 1969 from the Free University in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
After moving to New York City, he completed surgical residency training in 1976 at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. After residency Dr. Koning traveled around the world for 2 years. During this trip he met his wife, Patricia, in China. They settled in Central Oregon in 1979. Dr. Koning is the founding member of Advanced Specialty Care.
For the last 15 years, Dr. Koning has been focused on minimally invasive surgery. He started the Heartburn Healers Program in 1991 to draw attention to problems arising from gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and has focused his efforts on the treatment of stomach and esophageal disorders, including cancer.
Since 2000 he has been actively engaged in diagnosis and treatment of morbid obesity. He and his partner, Stephen Archer, founded Advanced Bariatrics Care and the St. Charles Bariatric Surgery Program.
Dr. Koning has written and lectured for national and international audiences about his areas of interest. Locally, Dr. Koning is a founding member of Hospice of Redmond and Sisters.
Besides enjoying taking care of his patients, he loves spending time with his family, traveling and the outdoors.
