Stephen Archer, MD, FACS
Surgeon
Dr. Stephen Archer graduated from the University of Tennessee Medical Center in 1991 and completed general surgery training at the University of Cincinnati in 1998. He completed a fellowship in minimally invasive surgery and bariatrics at Emory University in 2000 and stayed on the surgery faculty at Emory after graduation. In 2001 he moved to Central Oregon and joined Advanced Specialty Care.
Dr. Archer’s interests include the treatment of heartburn and swallowing problems, cancer of the esophagus, stomach, pancreas and bile ducts. Along with Marinus Koning, he is the founder of Advanced Bariatrics and is involved in all aspects of treating morbid obesity. He is the director of the St. Charles Bariatric Surgery Program. He is the founder of the Bariatric Conference of the Cascades—a multi-specialty regional medical meeting focusing on the treatment of obesity.
Dr. Archer is on the clinical adjunct faculty of Oregon Health Sciences University department of surgery and is regularly involved in teaching for the university and in teaching at national conferences. Dr. Archer is also an associate professor of surgery for the OHSU physician assistant program. In 2005, ASC won the teaching award for the program.
He enjoys traveling with his wife, Ann, fly fishing and mountain biking. |
