Advanced Specialty Care is a multifaceted medical facility in beautiful Central Oregon, with locations in Bend and Redmond.  Our group of specialty physicians and surgeons provide the highest level of care in selected areas of medicine.  Among the many specialties that we offer treatment and services for are obesity, diabetes, heartburn, varicose veins, colon and rectal diseases, and breast cancer.  In addition, ASC is a surgical center, providing general surgery services on an outpatient basis.  The aim of ASC has been to fill the gaps in specialty care in Central Oregon, and to create an environment where patients meet a team of physicians who work together to help their patients.

General Surgery

First and foremost, Advanced Specialty Care is a surgical center. ASC was the first practice in Central Oregon to feature a surgeon with fellowship training within general surgery (Dr. Archer, minimally invasive surgery).  While our surgeons and doctors have all developed an area of special expertise, our primary mission is to provide total surgical care.  This includes (but is not limited to) trauma, hernia repair, appendectomy and gallbladder surgery, along with treatment for various general diseases and conditions that may not fall under a specific specialty.

Bariatrics Care

Bariatrics deals with the causes, prevention and treatment of obesity.  Today 97 million Americans, more than one-third of the adult population, are overweight or obese. Obesity is a chronic, metabolic disease that results from the excessive accumulation of fat that exceeds the body's skeletal and physical standards.

Breast Surgery

The screening procedures for breast cancer have changed greatly over the years. While early detection is still key, new procedures such as Sentinel Node Biopsy can in some cases help doctors to more accurately diagnose a problem. In addition, treatment options are more varied, mastectomy no longer being the only option.

Endocrinology Diabetes Treatment

An endocrinologist is a specially trained doctor. Endocrinologists finish four years of medical school and then spend three or four years in an internship and residency program. They spend two or three more years learning how to diagnose and treat hormone conditions. Overall, an endocrinologist's training will take more than 10 years. Endocrinologists are trained to diagnose and treat hormone problems by helping to restore the normal balance of hormones in your system. Endocrinologists conduct basic research to learn the way glands work, and clinical research to learn the best methods to treat patients. Endocrinologists develop new drugs and treatments for hormone problems.

Endoscopy Services

Dr. Koning, ASC's founder, removed the first colon polyp in Central Oregon over 20 years ago.  Since then ASC has provided endoscopy services continuously.  ASC provides upper gastrointestinal endoscopy and colonoscopy services in the ASC GI Diagnostic Center, and we use propofol sedation, a type of anesthetic that no one else in Central Oregon uses.  Our in-office endoscopy suite enables patients to meet their provider in a safe, quiet atmosphere for colonoscopy and upper endoscopy.

Heartburn Healers

Virtually everyone knows the burning of acid indigestion, bitter acid coming up from the stomach causing a burning pain under the breastbone. Usually just eating something or taking some Tums® or Maalox® is sufficient for relief. Ulcers of the stomach are notoriously associated with heartburn. A more common condition, however, is call hiatus hernia.

Vein Treatment

Varicose veins are gnarled, enlarged veins. Any vein may become varicose, but the veins most commonly affected are those in your legs and feet. That's because standing and walking upright increases the pressure in the veins in your lower body.  Here at ASC, we offer the VNUS ® Closure procedure, an alternative treatment option to traditional vein stripping surgery, bringing state-of-the-art technology to an age-old disease.
